William shown here holding his first grandson Joshua McQueen worked as a bus driver in the 50's and 60's where he met and married Elsie. In the late 60's and 70's worked as a coal delivery man and for McAdams the catalogue firm. Bill and Elsie became separated in 1966. Bill eventually partnered Marion Barlow and lived happily with Marion until his death in 2007. During the late 70's and 80's he moved on to working at Swan Hunter's as an Electricians mate until he was laid off. Moving into temporary pub management he then started security work in Newcastle and elsewhere. Bill never wanted to retire working when ever and wherever he could until he was too ill to continue. He even made the newspapers when he was faced with the axe at Newcastle Law Courts.
He died peacefully at the Freeman Hospital Newcastle from bronchpeumonia and a kidney infection. He was cremated on the 20th September 2007 at Whitley Bay crematorium on the same day as the 94th birthday of Nancy his only surviving and oldest sibling. |
